João Luís Lisboa is Full Professor in the Department of History at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of NOVA University Lisbon (NOVA FCSH). He received his PhD in History and Civilization from the European University Institute (Florence) in 1998 with the dissertation Mots (dits) écrits. Formes et valeurs de la diffusion des idées au XVIIIe siècle au Portugal.
His research focuses on the history of books and reading, particularly their material and formal dimensions, as well as on European networks of information circulation and their agents, with a special emphasis on early modern Europe. He has participated in several national and international research projects related to these topics.
He is currently a researcher and Head of the Board of the CHAM – Centre for the Humanities, a research centre of NOVA FCSH and the University of the Azores.
