HAMASHITA Masahiro (濱下昌宏) Born in 1946, in Shizuoka. Professor Emeritus, Kobe College (神戸女学院大学) He studied aesthetics at Tokyo University, in particular specializing Eighteenth-century British aesthetics and emergence of modern aesthetics in Japan. His main publications include Studies on Eighteenth-Century British Aesthetics (18世紀イギリス美学史研究), Aesthetics as a Discipline for Human Existence: an Essay on the History of Modern Aesthetics in Japan (主体の学としての美学―近代日本美学史研究―) and others. He lectured at Universities of Hosei(法政大学), Kokugakuin(國学院大学), Osaka(大阪大学), Kumamoto(熊本大学), Kansei Gakuin(関西学院大学), Kyoto(京都大学), as well as Visiting Professorship of University of Bologna (Italy), Capital Normal University (Beijing, China) and University of Technology Sydney (Australia). Former Fellow of the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, the University of Edinburgh (UK), member of the project Pathways into the Third Millennium, UNESCO. Co-presided Japan-Korea Aesthetic Studies Society and Society of Oriental Aesthetics.
