Toni Popović

Toni Popović is an assistant professor at the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split. His research interests span rural sociology, cultural anthropology, sociology of education, sociology of labor, and sociology of tourism. Over the course of his academic career, he has published more than forty scientific papers and participated in approximately thirty academic conferences.

As an expert–researcher, he has contributed to several EU-funded projects focused on improving Croatia’s education system — including Development of Occupational and Qualification Standards for Adult Education Professionals (2015–2016, European Social Fund) and Social Sciences and Humanities in Intersectoral Outreach for Better Education and Sustainable Innovations (2019–2022, Erasmus+). He was also involved in the work of the Centre of Excellence for School Effectiveness and Educational Management, initiated by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia.

In addition to his research activities, Popović is a member of the Presidency of the Croatian Sociological Association and currently serves as head of its Split branch. His professional achievements have been recognized with several awards, including the Award for Excellence in Scientific Research for Researchers under 36 (2020) and the Award for Excellence in Teaching (2025), both conferred by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split. He is also the recipient of the 2025 Annual Award for Excellence from the Diversity in Organizations, Communities & Nations Research Network (Common Ground, USA).
